A Fine and Private Place is Peter S. Beagle’s seminal novel about a man who abandoned society and has lived illegally inside a cemetery for two decades with only the company of ghosts and a talking raven. The project is an anime adaptation so the visuals were built with illustrated composites that speak to the gothic and folksy tone of this love story. The characters, the setting, and even the novel itself carry the burden of age, so it was important to capture the senescence without losing its fantastical whimsy and charm or its contemplation of life and death.
